1. Diagnostic & Service Call Fee
The diagnostic fee covers dispatching a professional technician to your home or business, the technician’s time and travel, the on-site diagnosis and a firm repair quote:
- $49 — standard appliances (washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven, range, cooktop, microwave)
- $99 — refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, wine coolers and premium brands (Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Miele, BlueStar)
- $150 — commercial kitchen and refrigeration equipment
The diagnostic fee is credited toward your repair. Approve the work and you pay nothing extra for the visit. If you choose not to proceed with the repair, the diagnostic fee is due at the time of the technician’s visit.
There is no surcharge for evenings or weekends. The only additional charge is travel outside our standard service area, agreed with you before the visit.
2. Estimates & Authorization
- After the on-site diagnostic you receive a firm quote. No work starts before you approve the price.
- The minimum labor charge is $195 when you decide to repair. Labor depends on the scale of the work (location of the equipment, complexity of the fault, disassembly required). Typical ranges are listed on the Prices page; most quotes are given after the diagnostic, because the same symptom can have several very different causes.
- Where a lower-cost alternative exists, we explain it along with its risks and let you decide. We recommend replacement only when the repair would cost more than 80 % of a comparable new unit.
- By scheduling service and authorizing diagnostic work, the customer confirms that they have read, understood and agreed to these terms, including the risk of appliance failure during testing (section 3).
3. Diagnostic Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability
Customer understands and agrees that during the diagnostic process, the appliance or equipment may already have pre-existing defects, wear, electrical issues, internal damage, corrosion, or prior improper repairs that are not visible or detectable before testing begins.
During diagnostics — including but not limited to powering the unit on or off, voltage testing, disassembly, component inspection, system resets, or operational testing — the appliance may partially or completely fail, stop functioning, or sustain additional damage as a result of these pre-existing conditions.
Big Joe Appliance Repair Service and its technicians shall not be held responsible or liable for appliance failure, loss of function, or additional damage that occurs during or immediately after diagnostic procedures, provided that reasonable and standard diagnostic practices are used.
Customer acknowledges that diagnostic services are performed at the customer’s own risk, especially for appliances that are:
- Older or out of manufacturer warranty
- Previously repaired or modified
- Improperly installed
- Experiencing electrical, control board, compressor, sealed system, or intermittent issues
Diagnostic services are limited to inspection and testing only and do not constitute a guarantee of repairability or continued operation of the appliance. Some appliances may be non-repairable, unsafe to continue operating, or economically impractical to repair once diagnostics are completed.
If an appliance becomes inoperable during diagnostics due to pre-existing conditions, the diagnostic fee remains due and non-refundable.
The company and technician are not responsible for:
- Appliance downtime, loss of use or inconvenience
- Food loss, water loss, or secondary damages
- Replacement costs or consequential losses
4. Parts & Workshop Repairs
- We use genuine OEM parts. Heavy premium components (compressors, condensers, gaskets) are stocked in our own warehouse; rare parts are ordered and we tell you the expected date upfront.
- If parts are specially ordered or delivered to the service address and the customer cancels the repair for reasons beyond the company’s control, the cost of the parts and associated delivery fees is non-refundable.
- When a fault cannot be reproduced on site, we may — with your consent — take the unit or component (for example an ice maker) to our workshop for extended bench testing, repair it there, and deliver and reinstall it.
5. Payment Terms
- Payment Due: on completion of the repair, against the invoice.
- Accepted Payment Methods: credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, cash, check and wire transfer. Check and cash — no fee; credit card — 3.5 % processing fee. Please make checks payable to Big Joe Appliance Repair Service.
- By making payment, the customer confirms that all services listed on the invoice have been completed and tested, with satisfactory results, unless otherwise noted.
- Labor charges apply for any repair work performed, even if full functionality is not restored due to unrelated or underlying issues.
- In the event a deposit is paid for a future repair and the customer cancels the service for reasons beyond the company’s control, the deposit is non-refundable.
6. Warranty Terms
We stand behind the work. If a covered repair fails, we come back. All warranty requests must be submitted within the applicable warranty period.
6.1 Warranty Coverage
- Standard appliances: up to 3 months on labor and up to 1 year on the parts we replaced.
- Premium appliances (Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Miele, BlueStar): 1 to 3 years on parts and labor, depending on the appliance and the scope of work. Extended coverage is available on request.
- Full Sub-Zero rebuild: 3 years on parts and labor.
If your warranty lapsed by a few days, we will still take care of it. If the same fault returns a year or two later, we offer a substantial discount on that repair.
6.2 Warranty Exclusions
Our warranty does not cover:
- Additional or unrelated repairs not performed during the original service
- New or different issues in the same appliance, even if symptoms appear similar
- Any form of accidental, physical, or water damage
- Cosmetic or non-functional parts such as glass, trim, handles, panels, tubs, baskets, doors, shelves
- Plumbing lines, refrigerator water filters, water housing and connectors, even if we recommended or replaced them
- Appliances that have been relocated from the original service address
- Repairs involving non-original manufacturer parts supplied by the customer
Important: All warranties are valid only if the customer has paid in full all charges outlined in the invoice or price quote.
7. Coupons
- $30 off any repair when you book online — see Coupons. Print it or show a screenshot to the technician.
- The coupon applies to the repair charge, not to the diagnostic / service call fee. One coupon per repair; not combined with other discounts.
